Erectile dysfunction drugs are popular for erectile dysfunction but are not as effective as traditional medications, researchers reported Monday.
The study, published in theJournal of Sexual Medicine, examined whether the effectiveness of Viagra, the drug that treats erectile dysfunction, were improved in men with erectile dysfunction who received treatment with the active ingredient, sildenafil citrate, rather than placebo.
Erectile dysfunction is the most common male sexual dysfunction, but erectile dysfunction can be an issue for men who have difficulty achieving an erection.
Viagra is prescribed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and may be effective for some men in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
However, the drug has not been as successful for men with erectile dysfunction who were treated with Viagra.

It may be the first time that an FDA advisory panel voted to recommend that Viagra be sold over-the-counter.
And then there’s the question of whether the drug is safe for long-term use.

If you were to take Viagra daily for the first time, you would be taking the pill twice a day for two years, and then once a week, for three months.
And that’s when a new study — published this week in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine — shows that older men taking Viagra had a 20 percent lower risk of dying from heart attack compared with men taking the same drug who did not take the drug.
Researchers found that those taking Viagra were more likely to die from a heart attack, stroke or other heart-related problems. They also showed that those who took Viagra had a 40 percent higher risk of dying from any form of cancer compared with those who did not take the drug.
“This is one of those rare cases where the FDA’s action is needed,” said Dr. Feixiong Cheng, a professor of medicine and head of the department of medicine at Hong Kong’s Hong Kong University. “If you look at the data, it’s an absolute risk reduction, not a absolute benefit.”
For the study, researchers analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, an international, open-label study of the health benefits of drugs for diseases.
In terms of overall death rates for men and women taking Viagra, they found a 20 percent reduction in the risk of death from cardiovascular disease, cancer and other causes.
Viagra has been a treatment option for millions of men worldwide since 1998, and the drug has had widespread use in the United States and Canada, as well as several European countries.
The drug was originally developed as a treatment for enlarged prostate glands, but researchers discovered that Viagra was also approved by the FDA to treat prostate enlargement, enlarged prostate or enlarged prostate gland in men over 50.
